Mungai Wairia, Office Maintenance Provider at Qubic, has confirmed his place in the New York Marathon 2019 after successfully achieving the qualifying time this year. Mungai, who has been working with Qubic for 11 years, will again be running for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation after attaining his best time during the Great North Run 2019 on their behalf.
Mungai is an established runner having now taken part in 40 half marathons previously and is among the few Newcastle Park runners who have completed 300 Park Runs.
He has taken part in numerous full marathons, including Yorkshire and London, however the New York Marathon has always been Mungai’s ultimate goal as it is one of the five majors across the world. On top of all the milestones he has been able to reach this year, he has also been awarded Male Park Runner of the Year by Newcastle Park Run!
Mungai commented, “I am excited to run for The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation for the second time this year, once again helping them to raise funds and awareness of the vital work they do. On top of this, I will be achieving something fantastic personally and I hope I can come away with another personal best!”
